Digitalization is not a new concept, but in recent years, more pharmaceutical and healthcare companies adopted digital technologies to make people’s lives easier, make it more accessible to track their health, and make the best use of technology to take care of their bodies.

American medical device manufacturer Abbott is covering general-purpose sensing devices. Testing signals might be costly and time-consuming. It does not have to be that way anymore. They made “Lingo” sensing technology to track human body key signals. In the future, it might be able to evaluate alcohol levels in the body.

The company makes continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for diabetes management (since 2014) — but Abbott’s Chairman and CEO, Robert B. Ford, announced the designation of a new line of consumer bio wearables – Lingo – which they designated for fitness and wellness purposes.

“Technology gives us the power to digitize, decentralize and democratize healthcare, create a shared language between you and your doctor — and put more control of your health in your hands,” he said during the keynote. “We are creating a future that will bring you and your loved one’s care that’s more personal and precise. It is happening right now. And its potential is no less than incredible.”

Last year the company launched the biosensor for athletes to track their level of glucose and support their health needs during training. Today the company aims to expand the use of biosensors to more people to help them track their health status and have a better quality of life. They designed the sensor to track more things than just glucose like ketones and lactate.

In the past few years, many startups have sought to manufacture such types of hardware to help people track their health and fitness, track their glucose level, and their weight loss targets.
