When people think about eczema, itching is often the first symptom that comes to mind.
But atopic dermatitis can feel like much more than an itch. Pain can be described as burning or stinging, while symptoms can also interfere with sleep and everyday life.
For World Atopic Eczema Day, we focused on one of those experiences: the burning sensation, and the natural desire to cool irritated, uncomfortable skin.
Through our creative concept services, that patient insight became the foundation for a visual idea designed for eczema awareness and treatment brands.
Here’s how we developed the concept.
1. Start With a Real Patient Experience
Every strong creative concept needs a meaningful starting point.
For this campaign, ours came from the symptoms associated with atopic dermatitis.
Research shows that skin pain is common in atopic dermatitis, affecting an estimated 61–78% of patients, and is often described as burning, stinging, or stabbing.
That gave us an important insight:
The visible signs of eczema on the skin are only part of the story. Burning, stinging, and discomfort are part of the experience too.
And that became the starting point for our campaign.

2. Ask the Question That Unlocks the Creative Concept
Once we had the medical insight, we needed to turn it into a creative idea:
If eczema feels like burning… what should relief feel like?
The natural response to burning or stinging skin is to look for something cooling and soothing.
That became our creative direction.
What if relief was something you could actually wear during a flare-up?

3. Turn Relief Into Something You Can Wear
From there, our concept became:
Relief They Wish They Could Wear!
We transformed the idea of cooling into a visual metaphor by creating transparent, ice-like wearables around different areas of the body affected by eczema.
But the concept was also designed with a business objective in mind. For an eczema treatment brand, the ice can become a metaphor for the relief the product aims to provide, creating a natural connection between the patient experience, the creative idea, and the brand.
In other words, the product can take the role of the “cooling relief” within the campaign concept, while the ice gives that feeling a visual form.
This allowed us to turn an internal sensation into something people could immediately see, understand, and connect with a potential treatment message.
We also supported each visual with a medical statement related to the patient experience, bringing the creative concept and medical insight together in every execution.
