Tiktok Surpasses Youtube for Average Watch Time In The US And The UK

TikTok, a video-sharing-focused social networking service owned by Chinese company ByteDance, was initially released in September 2016, and the stable release was in August 2021. Yet, the growth in its users was tremendous and fast throughout the past few years.
YouTube, on the other, had was released on December 15, 2005. By that time, it was already serving more than two million video views each day. It is known for being the second most visited website with billions of viewers every month.
But a new report from app analytics firm App Annie shows that TikTok outperforms YouTube in average watch time in the US. TikTok overtook YouTube first in August 2020 than in June 2021 in the US.
YouTube is still in the lead regarding the time spent overall since it has two billion users compared to the 700 million users on TikTok. All this data is based on android users.
The Reason Behind Tiktok’s Success
If you haven’t been there already, it might sound like another social media platform. But the reason behind TikTok’s success is that they offer a few different types of content that lead more people to sign in and find something new and more engaging. These types of content include short videos, live streaming, and authentic content made by the app users themselves. It has lead other social platforms to mime these features; for instance, YouTube added YouTube shorts, and Instagram added the reels.

These new features have boosted the amount of content published and the amount of money spent on content creators by many brands, companies, and social media marketers.
The report said the money spent on apps that have live-streaming as a distinguishing feature is three-quarters of money spent on the top 25 social apps in the first half of 2021.
